The performing arts programs at MHS includes Theater taught by Ashley Skeffington, Choral Music taught by Andrew Scoglio, Strings taught by Julie Frias, Band taught by Scott Winship and Dance. You may read more about each of the programs by clicking the drop down buttons below!

Mixed Choir
This is a full-year course and is open to all interested students in grades 11 and 12. Men of all grades (9-12) are encouraged to take this course. Whether you have sung all your life or have no experience whatsoever, Mixed Choir is the place for you! A variety of musical styles from classical to contemporary will be rehearsed and performed. Vocal technique, ensemble skills, and music literacy are taught through varied repertoire that includes jazz, classical, world, and contemporary genres. The Women’s and Mixed Choirs perform at school concerts and community events.

There is no audition for the CP1 level. Honors level auditions occur during Mid-Term exams.


Women's Choir
This is a full-year course open to all female Marblehead High School students. Whether you have sung all your life or have no experience whatsoever, Women’s Choir is the place for you! Repertoire may include Western art music (sacred and secular), folk and multicultural music, vocal jazz, pop and musical theatre. There will be a special emphasis on great works written for women’s voices. The Women’s and Mixed Choirs perform at school concerts and community events.

Chamber Choir - Luminiscense
Students in the Chamber Choir will sing in one of two select a cappella groups: Luminescence or the Jewel Tones. The Chamber Choir meets after school and requires a significant time commitment including evening and weekend performances. The group performs at school concerts as well as numerous community events. While there is heavy emphasis on contemporary a cappella music, the Chamber Choir will also perform choral pieces as one ensemble. The challenging repertoire requires independence and advanced ensemble singing skills. Students will complete required reading assignments and lead one warm-up per quarter.

Grizzly Freakin’ Man Singers
Student run, men’s A cappella group. An audition is required but all are accepted. The group performs at in-school events as well as local events.

Serendipity
Student run, women’s A cappella group. An audition is required but all are accepted. The group performs at in-school events as well as local events.

Gospel Choir
The purpose of this group is to gather students from all backgrounds and cultures to sing soulful songs and express yourself creatively through the direction of the Marblehead Gospel Coordinator, Donovan (DJ) McLean from the Berklee College of Music.

Concert Band
Concert Band is open to all interested continuing instrumental students. Music from a variety of musical eras and styles will be rehearsed and performed. The band will participate in multiple school concerts, and music festivals throughout the school year. Rehearsal etiquette, performance participation, band projects and performance assessments are used to determine the student’s grade.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band is open to all interested instrumentalist musicians. Music from a variety of jazz and rock/pop genres will be studied. The Jazz Band participates in various school concerts, special concerts and music festivals throughout the year. Participation in Concert Band is preferred, but not required. This course meets before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Jazz Combo
Jazz Combo is open to all interested instrumentalist musicians. The Jazz Combo participates in various concerts throughout the year. Participation in Jazz Band is preferred, but not required.

Marching Band
Marching Band is open to all interested students. The Marching Band will participate in various marching band competitions during the fall competitive season, as well as home football games and special band festivals such as UMass Band Day. The Marching Band rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 and Saturday mornings from 9:00-12:00.

Drama Club
A place to explore your theatrical interests! Participate in Drama Club’s Improv Days, Open Mic Night, and trips to see shows in the Greater Boston Area and even NYC! Club meets every other Friday in the Chorus Room.

Shakespeare Club
For students who live, breathe, and eat Shakespeare, the Club gathers each Thursday in Room A308 to tell tales of the Bard. Open and affirming group that welcomes new thespians to the fold. Only a passion for iambic pentameter required.

Guitar Club
Learn riffs, licks and songs on the guitar with your peers in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The Club meets Mondays from 3:00-4:00pm in Room C107.

Tri-M Music Honor Society
International music honor society for juniors & seniors in music; applications are available and due in the spring for the following school year. Tri-M strives to promote music in our schools, serve the community, and raise money for scholarships.

Dance Team
Open to MHS students by audition only. Dance Team draws from the population who has studied dance. Students perform at school events including basketball games, Senior Show, etc.
